What is the National Association of Activity Centres?

The NAAC aims to support the establishment of activity centres and to improve of the conditions under which they exist. The list of members count almost 80 activity centres with contact to a total of some 10.000 users.

In recent years a number of new activity centres have come into being. The background of the formation of the NAAC is, that many activity centres experience a sense of isolation in relation to the established system.

The activity centres are organized in very different ways. Some are run by the local authorities, some are run by a society of users and others may have a third kind of set up.

Common to all the activity centres is a need for exchange of knowledge, experience and  information, and a need for education and qualification of staff and volunteers. The same goes for the wish of profesional and collegial sparring, because, as mentioned above, many centres find themselves in a rather isolated position in relation to the established system. Furthermore many of the centres are build up around a single persons enthusiasm and incentive.

All activity centres have some common features: that they provide a framework for community and change and that users are being met with expectations and demands that suit their individual situation.

The activity places and the NAAC strive together to find new ways and methods for social work.
